Vehicle 911 Kits

When we think of making First Aid kits (or buying them) we normally don't really consider the possible needs we might have while in our vehicle. You can buy some kits for camping... Others for boating....others for fishing, hunting, biking, outdoors (anything), indoors (anything), on the road, off the road, in between the road.....

Generally, these kits (no matter which one you buy) can run between $10.00 and $50. I have a medical kit that goes with me in the car on every single day trip (or weekend trip) we take, and no matter what the distance. If I'm going to be out of town for more than 4 hours, the home made 'med kit' comes with us.

So what should we put in our vehicle 911 kits?

Here are some suggestions:
1. Band aids
2. 2 pop cycle sticks
3. 1 small spool of thread (preferably white)
4. 1 small Swiss army knife type pocket knife
5. 1 book of matches
6. 2 sewing needles (these come in handy for splinter removals)
7. Travel sized hand sanitizer
8. 2 rubbing alcohol pads
9. 2 large paper clips (these can be used for many things)
10. 1 small soft make up or paint brush
11. Syrup of Ipecac
12. 1 set of small nail clippers
13. 1 set of small tweezers
14. 1 small package of dental floss
15. 2 safety pins
16. 1 small flash light
17. 1 stick of chapstick or lip balm (unflavored)
18. 2 elastic hair ties
19. 1 non-digital thermometer
20. 1 set of twisty ties (like the ones that come with some garbage bags)
21. 1 eye wash cup
22. 1 eyebrow brush
23. 1 sandwich baggie (it does not have to be a ziplock)
AND... 24. Written list of any and all allergies and medical conditions you have (and, for anyone else in your family who regularly travels with you).

Believe it or not, ALL of the above mentioned items can fit into a normal sized cosmetic bag that you put into your purse or briefcase/attache.

If you have specific medical needs and require prescription medication, it is recommended that you bring along a full sized container of said medication (if possible) when you go on trips that will take you away from your local area for more than 4 hours.

Every single one of the above listed items has more than 1 practical use. Lip balm isn't just good for lips. It's also good for coating infected areas (to protect them from the elements and further infection).

An eye brow brush is somewhat stiff, which comes in very handy to use as a miniature scrub brush. Elastic hair bands are useful for not only keeping a person's hair out of their face, but also to help cut off circulation to areas that might be infected, bleeding a bit too much or swollen from a bug sting (never totally cut off the circulation, just try and keep it to a minimum).

So the next time you're going on a day trip... Throw a vehicle 911 kit into the car (or your attache, back pack, brief case, glove compartment). You might just be glad you did :)
