Hummingbird Food Recipe

So, I see you're still going to the store to purchase overly expensive, red colored Hummingbird food. Why purchase it when you can make it right in your own home? It's tons cheaper (pennies, in comparisons to the bottle/can of store bought stuff), and you can make as much, or as little, as you want.

Hummingbird Food Recipe:

1 part sugar to 4 parts water

Step 1 - Boil the water first, then measure and add the sugar, at the rate of 1/4 cup of sugar to 1 cup of boiling water.
Step 2 - Let cool and store excess in refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes: Do NOT add food coloring, honey (which ferments), or artificial sweetener (which has no nutritional value to the Hummingbirds).

You will need to clean your feeder every once in awhile with hot water. You can also use a 10% bleach solution to inhibit mold on the inside of the feeder (but it's not necessary). Be sure to rinse thoroughly before refilling with the Hummingbird food.
